1972 Paul ‘Rooster’ Woods West Country Surf magazine

Paul ‘Rooster’ Woods graced the cover page of WA’s West Country Surf magazine in September 1972. In the same year he won the State Junior Surfing Title. The contest was held in huge seas at Margs. He borrowed a 7’6″ board and picked the big ones to win. Barry Day came second on a 6’2″ twinnie. The boys had no leg ropes back then. Rooster made Valley Surfboards at Yallingup. Sadly early in 1973, Paul and his girlfriend died in a road accident in the SW. They had been attending a Rolling Stones Concert in Perth. Image credit West Country Surf mag.
