2015 Noosa Festival of Surfing – Norm Bateman & Gooselegs

Veteran WA longboarder Norm Bateman (former State longboard champion & past President of Surfing WA) competed in the 2015 Noosa Festival of Surfing event held in Queensland. Norm won through to the final of the Over 65s longboard division and finished 4th in a strong field.

Norm: “I believe Goose sent you my photo from Noosa. It was in the finals of the O/65 division and it was very good surf. 4th place was less than I had hoped for, but I did have my board stolen after the first round. Goose lent me his board for round 3 and I borrowed a third one for the final. Not ideal, but I was happy to make the final. Dave Wilson the ex-proprietor of Gordon and Smith won. There was only 0.6 points between 2nd and 4th place.”

Norm was coached by Noosa local Gary ‘Gooselegs’ Vaughan (former National Longboard Director for Surfing Australia and past President of Surfing WA & Noosa Board Club). Goose stood on the headland near the take-off and let Norm know when the sets were coming.
