In the 80s South West surfers Trevor ‘TA’ Anderson, Peter Carter, Glen Harbison, Steve ‘Horny’ Campbell and the ‘Crow boys’ (Tony and Laurie Matters ex South Oz) went on surf trips to a remote beach in the Albany region on long weekends and during school holidays.
Horny Campbell– the ‘Crow boys’ and ‘TA’ found the surf spot while exploring dirt tracks between Albany and Esperance. They could see the ocean in the distance and drove around a locked gate and down a dirt track to discover the right hander at the point.
We used to surf at the point or in the bay.There was plenty of marine life with a seal colony out the back and whales in the bay. In the bush there were many black and yellow tiger snakes that were 5-6ft long.
Initially the girls came too, but then they started moaning about camping in the bush and in the end it was boys only. We built an old shack on the bluff. When we arrived we used to dig two holes, one as a dunny and one for rubbish. We got the kids to dig the holes!

Horny – The weather changes quickly down there, it was always raining and we used to get four seasons in a day.

Horny – This is a record crowd in terms of kids. Not one of the kids were bitten by snakes, even though they slept on the ground. I preferred to sleep in my ute and put some distance between the reptiles and me.
Horny – We stopped going to that south coast beach when the kids grew up and we got divorced!
