Earlier this year, Greg held an exhibition of his beach life photos. The exhibition titled ‘The Dazzling Young Riders’ was held at Nyisztor Studios, 391 Canning Highway Melville/Palmyra from 6-21 May 2017.

There were approximately 80 images in the exhibition, about a third of which were guys surfing. The rest were beaches, waves, bikinis, sunbathers and a few portraits.

Greg has kindly allowed Surfing Down South to display some of his 1960-70s photos.

1970s Surfin Surfari at Trigg Beach

Back in the 70s’ we had regular rock band concerts and beach girl beauty contests on our metro beaches. The entertainment events were normally sponsored by Perth radio stations and drew big crowds.

Photo-journalist Ric Chan captured these images of WA’s first 6KY Surfin Sarfari event held at Trigg Beach in the 70s.

The event ran on Sunday 14 February from 9.30am to 3.30pm. Oz singer Russell ‘The Real Thing’ Morris was the headline act. Other entertainment included a Beach Girl contest & beach games.

Surf event promoter Tim Duff arranged an aerial flying display over Trigg Point during a Trigg Point surfing contest. It was an amazing aerial display with coloured vapour trails and was the pinnacle of surf promotion in WA at that time. Unfortunately we don’t have any pics of the air show.
