My brother Dave just let me know about the “Surfing Down South” FB post which was pretty cool.
Attached is a commercial postcard shot of me that turned up out of the blue and was being sold at newsagents in Perth when I was circa early 20s and on another Blaxell board. Way back before social media, insta, snap, whatever and when most of us where lucky to have maybe a couple of good action surf shots, let alone vids! Back of card says 1987, so I was 21 but there is no way that is Cottesloe!

Will keep in touch. Off to surf NSW Surf Masters Titles at Boomerang Beach in mid-June, 50+ division which will almost certainly be a short adventure as still plenty of aged, fit sharp shooters on the East Coast that will line up for the same comp so very low expectations! But should be great fun at the same time.

Martin Boffey and his older brothers Ray and Dave were Trigg Point locals for many years in 1970-80s era.
Marty was a Blaxell Team Rider and saw Blaxell’s 50th Anniversary posts on Surfing Down South and contacted Tom Blaxell.
Marty’s now lives in Avalon NSW and these are his comments: –
Hey Tom
Great to see the recent photos of the Hillarys 50th celebration and some classic boards and stories in amongst it all.
I’ve got a lot of great memories from my early days including riding Blaxell Boards and heading up to Durs in the F100! I got to drive it a couple of times when I did some work experience at the Blaxell factory and felt like an absolute king! Big V8 sound!
I also remember one of my jobs after school in the showroom was to sew the coir mats together!!
Attached is an old shot of one of my prouder moments and a more recent one with my son Jake.

The trophy was a perpetual one for so called “up and comers”! Gus Simpson presented it to me from memory.

We live in Avalon NSW and still surf pretty much whenever conditions allow, plenty of good quality local waves. Mum and Dad still in King Albert Road Trigg after all these years.
We get back to WA most Xmas’s and end up at brother Ray’s house in Cowaramup or Dave at Prevelly. Always drop in to see Dave Macauley as well and Brent Stewart who lives next door to M&D.
