70s

In the beginning there was Blaxell

Update from Tom Blaxell 14 July 2018 .

Tom Blaxell Great story Cam. It’s nice to know you can touch somebody every now and then. Very fond memories of you, Stuie & your Mum. Just a couple of notes on the Chan man pics. “Bucky” is actually Bunky Miller, an affable young American who I think ended up going back to the States with his sister Mi Mi for their Dad’s work. The gloss coat is actually a filler coat, and the pup is Cindy who went everywhere with me, including out the back on a huge day at the Spot, where she nearly drowned!

Surf journo Cameron Bedford-Brown wrote an article about his first surfboard in Post Community Newspaper on 30 June 2018. It was back in the 70s when surfboards cost $90 and it was a 5ft 11in single fin from Blaxell Surfboards in Osborne Park.

This is Cameron’s article courtesy of Post Newspapers.

Here are some old and new Tom Blaxell images to whet your appetite.
