In the early 70s Rock concerts were held at the Parkerville Amphitheatre.
In 1971 Perth’s popular hard rock band Bakery played with other bands at a 6KY Pop Festival held at the Parkerville.
Bakery were an Australian progressive hard rock band formed in 1970 in Perth. The original line-up was Hank Davis on drums (ex-Avengers, a New Zealand band), Mal Logan on keyboards (ex-Rebels), Eddie McDonald on bass guitar (Avengers), Peter Walker on guitar (Jelly Roll Bakers) and John Worrall on vocals and flute. They released two albums on Astor Records, Rock Mass for Love (August 1971) and Momento (August 1972) and had a Perth hit with No Dying in the Dark. Bakery appeared at the Sunbury Pop Festival in January 1973 and disbanded in early 1975.
Bakery played to an enthusiastic crowd which got involved Woodstock fashion. Girls cooled off topless in the creek during the day and as night fell an enthusiastic concert goer disrobed on stage. A great time was had by all!
Intrepid surf photographer, media journo, male model and night club DJ Ric Chan attended the concert and covered the action for the media.
RicChan. “It was a wild time. The crowds loved the Bakery doods. I know I was there & took these pics.“
Tom Blaxell. “I’ve got to say I didn’t get to that gig, but I was a great fan of the Bakery. World class in my opinion. The lead guitarist Peter Walker was sensational. I also remember he suffered from glandular fever. Others in the lineup were Hank Davis on drums, Mal Logan on keyboards, Eddie McDonald on bass and John Worrall on vocals. There was a bit of a religious surge in concert with the summer of love, peace & all that stuff…vis a vis Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, etc.“
