Eiji is friends with WA’s former WAFL/VFL footballer/surfer Barry ‘Baz’ Day. Eiji and Baz were tow- in and surfing partners when Baz was a pilot living in Victoria. Both the boys share a passion for surfing and the history of surfing in Hawaii and Australia.

Eiji: – My first visit to WA was 1997. I was just Japanese shaper visiting WA from Torquay. Now I know some locals there in the South West.

Barry Day: – Eiji Shiomoto’s shaping story video features Eiji and surf historian Craig ‘Gonzo’ Beard (Curator Surf World Museum Torquay). The other shaper with the beard is Darren ‘Dicko’ Dickson.

Eiji, Dicko and I surfed a lot together when I lived in Victoria, he’s a really good bloke and excellent shaper.

Eiji is getting more publicity now he’s retired, than when working full time!!!

Did you notice how much rubber he was wearing surfing-hood, gloves, booties and 4/3 Steamer!!!!!

While Eiji still does surfboard shaping demos at Surfworld Torquay, he is now retired and only shapes boards for friends.

Thank you Eiji for sharing your shaping story.
