Team Pato

Yallingup’s renowned big wave surfer Paul ‘Antman’ Paterson rides all types of waves and surfboards.

Paul has excelled in International big waves contests.

In 1996 he won the 1996 O’Neill World Cup of Surfing title at Sunset Beach riding a 7’ 2” surfboard made by Yallingup shaper Al Bean. Paul’s surfboard and contest vest are on display at the WA Surf Gallery.

In 1999 he won the Reef Big-Wave World Championships at Todas Santos Mexico.

In 2001 he won the Billabong XXL Largest Paddle-In Award for a 48ft wave caught at Waimea.

And he finished third in both the 2001 & 2002 editions of the Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau big wave events at Waimea Bay.

Paul has retired from pro surfing and is now a water safety officer at major surf contests held in WA including WSL events.

This week Paul and his daughter Denya (age 13) have been riding short quad fin foamies at their local break.

Dunsborough surfer/photographer Bruce King captured these snaps of Team Pato surfing fun summer waves on their foamies.
