Surfing Western Australia (SWA) have a new Honour Board listing Life Members and Presidents/ Chairpersons. SWA was formerly West Australian Surfriders Association (WASRA) est. 1964.
The Honour Board details are printed on a 1950s restored hollow wooden surfboard presented to SWA by Len Dibben.
Len Dibben – “I made the 8-9ft hollow wooden surfboard at my Family home at then 56 Davy St. Myaree in the mid-50s say 1957. I made 15 of them for customers.
By the early 1960s foam started with polyurethane & epoxy resin and Coolite made from sheets about 4ft x 2ft glued together with Epoxy Resin. It was extremely hard to shape with the epoxy resin. Made three then shifted to Polyurethane, it was a rough form of a shape from Barry Bennett & Gordon Woods on the East Coast”.
