Mike Bibby’s surfing career started at Cottesloe in the late 50s. He was a junior member of the Cottesloe Board Club before moving to the Yallingup Board circa 1964.
His forte was nose riding on 9’6” Malibu surfboards and he became a competitive animal in the 1960s.
In 1964 he was a member of Yallingup Board Club and won the State Junior Winter Championships at Scarborough.
In 1965 Mike was a member of the victorious Christ Church school surf team in the inaugural State Schoolboys Competition held at Scarborough.
Mike placed second to Carl Schumacher (Yallingup Board Club) in the Junior Division of the 1965 State Titles held in the SW.
In 1966 Mike won the second round of the State Junior Titles held at The Cove Cottesloe and represented WA at the Australian Championships held at Coolangatta Qld.
The 1966 State Winter Surfboard Championships were held at Scarborough in September. Mike (Yallingup Board Club) won the Junior Division from Peter Dyson (YBC) and Brian Hood (Coastals Board Club).
In the 1967 State Titles held in the Southwest, Mike came second to Carl Schumacher in the Junior Division and represented WA at the Australian Championships held at Bells Beach Victoria.
