Barry Day started surfing at City Beach in the mid 1960s. He had a successful surf contest career in the early 1970s before moving on to play WAFL football for West Perth & VFL football for Essendon.
In 1972 Barry was a finalist in the Junior division of the State Surfing Titles held at Yallingup and represented WA at the National Surfing Titles held in NSW.
Barry competed in the 1972 National Surfing Titles held at Narrabeen in NSW made it to the Junior Final. In fact, he surfed so well he won the coveted Duke Kahanamoku Trophy for the most emerging surfer at the event.

In the same year (1972) Barry was also a junior finalist in the Bells Beach Easter Classic in Victoria.

Barry is a retired airline pilot and now lives and surfs in the Mandurah region WA.
