Bill Gibson. “The Surf Classic started in 1977 when the then owners of the Settlers Tavern approached a couple of members of the Margaret River Surf Riders club to sponsor a surf event. To this day the Settlers Tavern has remained the major sponsor of the Classic and has been joined by every business in the town of Margaret River. The businesses are proud of their involvement with the Classic over the years.”
