Barry Day started surfing at City Beach in the 1960s and had a successful surf contest career in the early 1970s before moving on to play WAFL football for West Perth & VFL football for Essendon.
After footy he worked in Tasmania as an airline pilot and surfed the Victorian surf coast with Torquay surfboard shaper Eiji Shiomoto. The lads used to do tow-ins and enjoyed surfing solid waves.
Eiji Shiomoto is a master craftsman and shaped quality Eiji Surf Design surfboards in Torquay Victoria for 30 years. He also did surfboard shaping demos at the Australian National Surfing Museum in Torquay.
On his return to WA in the 2000s Barry continued his surfer /shaper relationship with Eiji and had his custom boards shipped to WA from Vic.

Barry comes from the ‘foam is your friend’ school of thinking and many of his custom surfboards are larger than normal!
In 2013 Eiji designed a custom 10ft 6in x 21 7/8in x 3 3/4in surfboard for Barry and hand delivered it to Baz on a surf trip to Yallingup WA.
