In the 80s NZ surf photographer Ric Chan worked for West Coast Surf Magazine in WA.
Surf photographers are creative animals and have been known to enhance their images for assorted reasons. They either disguise surf locations, turn naturals into goofies or just add extra spice to the image.
In 1980 Ric flipped an image of a Rabbits beach Yallingup right-hander so it appeared as a left-hander and then pasted an image of a goofy-footer surfer in the barrel.
Ric’s modified image was published in a 1980s West Coast Surfer magazine with the caption ‘Fantasy Wave’.
