In early 2014 Margaret River Press conducted video interviews with some WA surfing pioneers to help promote the upcoming ‘Surfing Down South’ book by Sue-Lyn Aldrian-Moyle. The videos were produced by Margaret River videographer Sophie Mathewson.
The process behind a research-heavy book can uncover some almost unbelievable stories. Previously undocumented, the story of the pioneer surfers in WA’s south-west is a remarkable one.

In video #3 Dunsborough surf historian Jim King reveals a few snippets behind the book.
Jim has been the editor of Surfing Down South social media sites since 2014 and a surf historian at the WA Surf Gallery Yallingup since 2017.

The Surfing Down South book was released 9th February 2014 at Vasse Felix Winery in the southwest. The promotion videos worked and the initial print run and subsequent re-print sold out quickly. Since then, the publisher Margaret River Press has wound-up and the book is now only available in Public Libraries and second-hand bookshops.
