Yahoo Surfboards profile by Thea McDonald-Lee

Memories from  WA Surf Gallery 2 years ago

After learning the art of surfboard shaping under the wing of guru Bob Davie in Whangamata, Mark along with wife Sherylle and son Jed moved to WA in 1988. After stints working with Santosha shaping alongside Greg Laurenson and H2O with Colin Ladhams, Mark and Sherylle opened the doors to Yahoo Surfboards factory and showroom on Clark Street in 1994.

During an era in surfboard design that saw many recreational surfers shaped out of the line up with wafer thin, heavily rockered surfboards, Mark Ogram can be credited for bringing the fun back in to surfing.

Mark Ogram. “It was the wrong choice for a lot of surfers including myself, so I headed off on my own track making boards somewhere between shortboards and longboards.”

30 years later Yahoo Surfboards Yallingup are still manufacturing surfboards in Dunsborough, just around the corner from their original factory.

Our top tip? If you can’t make it out the WA Surf Gallery this weekend, go have a peek in Yahoo as surf history, vintage surfboards and unique memorabilia line the walls, roof and racks. And if you look closely, you’ll find the framed Yallingup image seen in these photos still hangs in Yahoo today.
