Scarborough Hotel 1938-1985

A lot of metro surfers will have happy memories of sharing the Sunday morning session at the Scarborough pub with bikies, before heading to the White Sands pub for the Sunday afternoon session.

There was a time when Scarborough beach was Perth’s heart of rock’n’roll, the hottest haunt for the “bodgies” and “widgies” of the1950s and 60s.

Local lad Kyle O’Callaghan’s dad was invited to a Farewell Dinner at the Scarborough pub on Thursday the 24th of October 1985. Kyle’s dad was a member of the Scarborigines swimming group, and he attended the function with his swimming mates. Membership fees were £2.10 shillings per year. See invite below.

Observation City (now Rendezvous Scarborough) was built on the Scarborough beach front for the late tycoon Alan Bond in 1986. Mr Bond anticipated the demand for accommodation during the 1987 America’s Cup challenge in Fremantle and wanted a view to see the yachts.

Thanks Kyle, for sharing your memorabilia.
