The first World Surfboard Titles were held 60 years ago in Manly NSW from 16-17 May 1964.
About 60,000 spectators saw 19-year-old Bernard ‘Midget’ Farrelly of NSW, win the world title against the best surfboard riders from eight countries.
Australian National Titles were also held in conjunction with the event. WA was represented by surfers Alex Kochanowitch (Mens), Barry King (Juniors) & Jenny Shackley (Womens).
