Headstands

Headstands were popular with longboarding enthusiasts in the 1950s & 60s. It was a high scoring contest manoeuvre similar to today’s aerials 😊.

Interest in headstands waned with the demise of longboarding in the late 60s and hasn’t really recovered with the revival of longboarding in the 80s.

Interestingly, SW surf/sail/waterman David Sheen won a mid-80s Yal Mal Classic event performing a headstand in the final, it is rare to see the headstand used in general surfing these days.
