Travelling NZ surf photographer Ric Chan captured these photos of talented WA junior surfers Craig and Stewart Bettenay surfing & socialising with Rick Lobe RIP at City Beach in 1969.
Craig Bettenay and his elder brothers Greg & Stewart were amongst WA’s finest surfers in the late 60s & 70s. They started their surfing careers at City Beach in the 60s and then moved down south in the early 70s.
Stewart Bettenay (age 17) took 2nd place in the Junior Division of the 1973 State Titles held at Margaret River behind his younger brother Craig.
The late Rick Lobe was crowned State Open Men’s Champion at the 1970 Spring Surfing Titles held at Trigg beach.
The third surfing Bettenay brother Greg, surfing the Mid West coast in1973.
