In the 50s young City Beach surfer Ray Geary from Wembley was among a band of metro surfers who pioneered surfing in the Mandurah and Southwest regions.
He was a sign writer by trade and designed t-shirts, parkas and surf shop signs for the surfing community.
Ray also decorated plywood surfboards with artwork.
Geary’s surf break at Mandurah was named after Ray’s family holiday shack on the hill behind Geary’s beach.
Ray is now retired and lives in the Mandurah region.
