Past Members from the surfboard rider’s community
Some of WA’s pioneer surfboard riders were members of the City Beach Surf Life Saving Club in the 50s.
In 1953, Ray Geary a 16-year-old from Wembley, founded the City Beach Board Club with his friends Graeme Killen, John Budge, Brian Cole, and other enthusiastic surfboard riders. They were following the new surfing lifestyle and culture which had started impacting and influencing art, music, literature, film & fashion. The lads were formerly members of the City Beach Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC).

Ian Scott was a member of the City of Perth SLSC in the 50s. Ian purchased WW2 Flying Suits ‘Bear Suits’ from an Army Surplus store for his City Beach Board Club mates.
