1976 Mark Well’s Austin A30

Mark Wells was a member of Scimitar Board Riders club established in 1975/76 by a group of mostly Trigg Beach/Point surfers.

Some of the early members included Randall Owens (Club President), Bruce Hocking, Shaun Atkinson, Steve Hood, Mark Wells, Steve ‘Hog’ Hannett and Peter Davidson. Jeff Thomson took over as president after Randall Owens. (See link to Scimitar story at bottom of this post).

Mark was also a junior Team Rider for Greirson Surfboards in the mid-70s.

Mark Wells.hey Jim…. thought this may be of interest if you ever run a blog on surfers ‘cars from back in the 70’s.

It is March 1976, and I had just got my license and my first car, an Austin A30 four door saloon.

It used to take me 5 hrs from North Beach to Yalls. Pull into the garage and ask them to fill up the Oil and check the Gas😊.

It chewed the oil but was very good on petrol… Top speed 90 km down wind. The A30 saloon had those fold out blinker/ indicators at roof level between the 2 doors. The luxury model…. She would have been a absolute ripper as brand new.

That is Perry Hatchett and Paul Burnett checking my new chariot in the following pic.

Classic days.”
