Towel Turban

Here is a lad with an eye for head wear fashion. He is wearing a towel turban on his head at Lefthanders surf break in 1977. The surfer and his single fin surfboard appear to have the beach to themselves 😊.

Roaming surf photographer/journo Ric Chan snapped this image.

Footnote: Before dung beetles were introduced in the southwest, towel turbans were commonly worn by surfers at Cape Naturaliste surf breaks during the summer ‘bush fly’ season. The head wear provided some relief from the pesky bush flies who were looking for fresh meat in the hot dry conditions.
