Tom Collins’ surfing and surf photography career was interrupted during the late 1960s due to conscription and his service in Vietnam. Upon returning, he collaborated with Gavin McCaughey to launch Western Australia’s first surfing magazine, originally called Country Surf Magazine in 1971. Shortly after, the publication was renamed West Country Magazine.
