North Beach is a northern coastal suburb of Perth. Its coastline is located between Mettams Pool and Watermans Bay and its main surfing beach is Tom’s.
Tom Blaxell (WA Surf Industry Pioneer) – This picture of North Beach taken in 1933 shows Tom’s surf break where the coastal track takes a tuck inland to what would be the junction of North Beach Road and West Coast Drive. Not a surfer to be seen and so many unridden waves!

Mike Wynne – Tom’s surf spot was named after Tom Wardle who started ‘Tom the Cheap’ supermarket chain back in the 60’s. Tom had a supermarket on the corner of North Beach Rd and West Coast Hwy – hence the surf break out the front was named Tom’s.
