WA surf contest promoter Tim Duff ran the 1984 Philishave Tracer Pro surf contest held at Trigg Point Nov 7-11, 1984. The pro event was ‘C’ Rated by ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) now titled WSL (World Surf League).
The contest was won by Cheyne Horan AUS.
It featured pro surfers on the ASP circuit including: –
- Barton Lynch Aus
- Cheyne Horan Aus
- Derek Hynd Aus
- Gary ‘Kong’ Elkerton Aus
- Gary Green Aus
- Greg Day Aus
- Kingsley Looker Aus
- Mike Burness South Africa
- Mitch Thorson WA
- Wayne Jaggard WA
Spectators were treated to the spectacle of top class surfing in fun waves at their local surf break.
The contest received a lot of media coverage on local TV and was a big event on WA’s surfing calendar.
Scarborough surfer, artist, photographer Peter Matulich (1959-2018) was a spectator at the contest and captured these photos of the pro surfers performing at Trigg Point.
