1956 Homemade four-man surf ski

In 1956 Wembley lads Ray Geary (19), Neil Campbell (17), Colin Taylor (17) and Bob Wakefield (18) spent five weeks and £45 making a 24 ft plywood four-man surf ski in the backyard. The boys were all members of the City Beach Board Club.

The 24 ft homemade surf ski was Ray’s pride & joy!

Thanks for sharing your vintage pics Ray and Budgie.

Footnote: In the late 1950s early 1960s Geary’s beach surf break south of Mandurah was named after Ray and Helen Geary’s beach shack in Sandra Street Falcon. (Falcon Bay was formerly called Miami). Ray and the boys would head over the back beach with their ‘planks’ and drink beer at the shack afterwards. Source Wikipedia.
