To Colleen from Midget 1994

In 1994 The West Australian Surfriders Association (WASRA) celebrated three decades in surfing with a Reunion at the Continental Hotel in Claremont. Former World Surfing Champion Bernard ‘Midget’ Farrelly (RIP) was a celebrity guest at the event. A fun night was had by all😊

1960s Scarborough surfer Colleen Burke from the Warrain Board Club attended the function and was lucky to get Midget to sign ‘To Colleen from Midget 1994’ on her WASRA Reunion poster.

WASRA produced a 30-year Reunion T-shirt to commemorate the event. The t-shirt featured finalists in the 1966 Winter Championships held at Scarborough. L-R Dig Degalli (2nd Juniors), Jenny Shackley (1st Women’s) & Murray Smith (1st Men’s) with their McDonagh surfboards from NSW.

Note: Mike Bibby won the Juniors but was unavailable for photoshoot.

Surf Journo Wayne Murphy wrote a ‘Ruling the Waves’ article covering WA’s Surfing Proudest memories over the 30 years. The article was published in the Big Weekend section of The Australian newspaper 13 August 1994.
