Scottish/Australian surf journalist, Thea McDonald-Lee, leaves Dunsborough shores in wintertime to surf the idyllic waves of the Mentawai’s while working at the surf camp Pitstop Hill. Thea has worked at the resort, “Cracking Bintangs for guests”, while never missing an opportunity to jump on the boat to surf.
In April 2018 Thea’s friend and Pitstop Hill photographer, Angus Sheridan, snapped these images of Thea surfing at Burgerworld on her custom Yahoo Kelvinator with artwork by Chubby Button.
When Yahoo first created these mini-Simmons surfboards, Mark ‘Hillsy’ Hills said they looked like fridge doors, so why not call them ‘Kelvinators’. With a resin tint to match the colour of these fridges and a Kelvinator badge with a bunch of old stickers, Thea really is surfing a fridge door. You can see her Kelvinator surfboard in the images.
