1960s State winter surfboard championships

The evolution of State surfboard championships went something like this:

  1. 1964 First State surfboard championships were held Down South at Yallingup over March LWE;
  2. 1965 First State winter surfboard championships were held in the Metro area at Scarborough Beach; and then
  3. 1970s WASRA contest official Tony Harbison introduced ‘State contest rounds’ at different surf locations.

These State Winter championship photos/images were sourced from Scarborough surfer Colleen Burke’s photo album, unless stated otherwise.

The inaugural State winter surfboard championships were held at Scarborough in 1965.
