WA surf industry legends Len and Peter Hawke commenced making plywood wooden boards in 1954 before moving onto balsa and fiberglass boards in 1956.
In 1962 they moved their surfboard business from a shed in their parent’s backyard in Wilcock Avenue Tuart Hill and established Hawke Surfboards in Scarborough Beach Rd Osborne Park.
Over the years Hawke Surfboards evolved into Hawke Brothers Pty. Ltd and moved to the Frobisher Street showrooms and factory in Osborne Park. A widening range of products that serviced water sports other than surfing began to develop. The Frobisher Street showrooms and factory in Osborne Park have been expanded on three occasions – testament to Peter and Len’s ability to produce high quality products in fibreglass and other plastics.
David Hawke (Len’s son) has shared some of the early Hawke Surfboard decals.
David. “These are images of most of the decals used, the first one was late 59 early 60. They were designed and produced by “Jim the Printer.” Dad and Peter can’t remember his last name. The pic captions show the year they were released.Sign writer /surfer Ray Geary helped with designs on surfing T-Shirts and Surfcat T-Shirts.

Many thanks to the Hawke family for sharing their surfing memorabilia.
