Mark Clift has worked for Surfing WA as a surf coach and contest commentator since the 1990s.
He established the Surfer Elite Program in 1993 and coached the WA state junior team from 1989 till 2006. His other contribution to surfing is as a competitions’ commentator.
Mark represented the state as a Junior on the Gold Coast in 1981 and in the Open Division on the Sunshine Coast in 1984. And in 1989 he was crowned WA State Open Champion.
Mark.“I wouldn’t call it work as it is too much fun being at the beach every day and going to great places to run events. It has been my passion and source of income for many years. It is my life and I’m lucky to have it.”
Prior to Covid pandemic travel restrictions, Mark divided his time between Indonesia and WA (since 1990).

In 2000 Mark was awarded Life Membership to Surfing WA for his services to surfing in WA.

Retired surfboard manufacturer Len Dibben donated the restored plywood board to SWA. The SWA Honour Board will be displayed at the WA Surf Gallery Yallingup until it is housed in SWA’s new headquarters at Trigg Beach when completed in mid 2022.
