1968 Yamba NSW wakeboarding images by Ric Chan

Surf photographer Ric Chan left his homeland NZ in 1965 and travelled the East Coast of OZ, shooting some of the hottest up and coming locals until 1969, when he left for Melbourne, Adelaide, and eventually WA.

His East Coast surf adventures took him from Sydney in NSW to Noosa in Queensland and return.

Ric had surf travel articles published in Californian surf magazine International Surfing in 1969 and Oz’s Surfing World magazine in the late 60s.

In his travels Ric visited Yamba at the mouth of the Clarence River in Northern NSW (the biggest river on the east coast of Australia). Just south of Yamba is Angourie, a National Surfing Reserve. Angourie Point is one of the best right-hand point breaks in Australia.

In Yamba Ric went wake boarding with Rodney Sumpter a talented surfer and surf entrepreneur from Cornwall, England

This is a collection of Ric’s images from his Yamba wake boarding session with Rodney Sumpter in 1968.
