The late Brian Felton’s 1938 Singer Bantam Roadster

The late Brian Felton and his mates surfed Metropolitan and Southwest beaches using hand boards, belly boards, kneeboards and wave skis from the 60s to his passing in the late 80s.

Johanne Felton (Brian’s daughter). “Don Felton, my pop and dad’s dad was a very talented boat builder and car body builder. He eventually made sunvisors for cars. Dad followed with his talent and craftsmanship becoming a panel beater too.

Pop bought from Singer a 1938 chassis and motor and then built a red/silver (aluminium) body around it in 8 weeks, which he felt was better than the original (of course)😊 After the second World War Singer produced one that was similar to Pop’s design.

Dad bought the Singer (his first car) from Pop in the late 50s. I believe once while Dad was driving that car, I think down Yalls Hill, he was stopped by a roo sitting in the middle of the road. Dad nudged the roo to move it along and instead of moving, it jumped up onto the soft top of the car and kicked the crap out of him! It wasn’t one of his finest hours!

When dad bought Uncle Sid’s blue Falcon, my mum Jenny took over driving the Singer. We think they sold the Singer to a Uni student.

Dad bought many of Pops old cars, drove them, then passed them on to mum when the new one came along. And eventually to me when I got my license. I drove the baby blue PT Falcon for over 5 years.”
