1970 Murray Smith Surfboards made old laundry Prevelly Caravan Park

In 1970 Scarborough surfer/board builder Murray Smith made some experimental short boards in the old laundry at Prevelly Caravan Park at Margaret River.

Murray Smith. “The Millars who owned the Prevelly Caravan Park at that time and then for quite a few years after,  gave me the space in the old laundry to make some boards.

Although I was still working at Hawke’s at that time, I wanted to try some different ideas and as it was the 2nd half of summer and going into autumn it allowed me to surf Margs more often.

In that era, we were always trying new surfboard ideas and you could make a board then try it out quickly, it also allowed me more surf time in good size waves with the shorter boards possible.”
