1973 Prive’s Fiat sedan at Scarborough

Dunsborough retiree Ian ‘Prive’ Morris has lived in the SW since the 70s and now spends his days surfing & fishing in SW and NW waters.

‘Prive’. “In 1973 I was living in Ewen St Scarborough with Cordingley shaper Steve ‘Blue’ Nicholson. I purchased a Fiat 125 sedan thinking I would make a killing on the resale, but I didn’t ☹.

Im not sure why Micko & Rex were with Blue & I that day in Scarborough (see photo). We were all involved in building Micko’s ferro cement yacht in Maylands in 1974. Then I headed overseas on a surf trip 1975/76″.

Micko’s yacht

In 1974 Micko & Peter McDonald (and friends) started building a 39ft ferro cement yacht in Maylands. It was based on a Royal Ocean Racing Yacht, NZ design. Peter’s enthusiasm for the project eventually waned, but Micko carried on and finished the yacht. He named the yacht Mimi by using the first two initials of his & his wife Michelle’s name. In 1984 he sailed Mimi around the top of Australia with his wife Michelle and son Kai.
