Former NZ surfer/rugby player and WA surf industry entrepreneur Peter Dunn ran Funs Back Surf Shop at Cottesloe for 19 years. His slogan was “Decent Dunny always gives a deal.”
Peter conceived and ran the inaugural Whalebone Longboard Classic at Isolated reef Cottesloe.
The Whalebone Classic traces its origins back to 1998 when Cottesloe longboarder Peter Dunn discovered a whale’s rib bone in the surf at Cottesloe. Inspired by this extraordinary find, Peter decided to honor the whale’s spirit by organising a longboard competition.
It is now an annual event sanctioned by Surfing WA and celebrated its 26th anniversary in 2024.
Peter was a foundation member of the WA Surf Gallery team at Aravina Estate, Yallingup in December 2017.
Peter ran Funs Back Surf Shop at Yallingup Beach for over 13 years until he retired from the surf industry in 2023.
