The West Australian Surf Riders Assoc (WASRA) ran the 1976 WA Spring Surfing Titles in good waves at Injidup Car Park on 8 October 1976.
Surf photographer and journalist Ric Chan covered the event for Independent Newspaper & local surf media, but after fifty years, he doesn’t recall the results or recognize those involved. Ian ‘Kanga’ Cairns likely won the Open Men’s division. If you know the results or can identify anyone, please let us know.

Mal Hardy. “Ian Cairns won the Oceans – O’Neill Winter Classic in May ‘76, followed by Craig Bettenay, Al Fixter, Stuie Bettenay, Steve Hannett and Adrian Wilson. Six man final. The Spring comp in ‘76 may have been won by Bob Monkman.”
Mark Wells. “I am very proud to have the Junior Trophy from that comp presented by Harbo… RIP! I beat Steve Randall and Brett Madalena by a very narrow margin. It was very good carpark! Pumping 5ft +.”
