The first National and World Surfboard Titles were held at Manly Beach NSW in May 1964.
The 1964 WA State Champions—Alex Kochanowitsch (Men’s), Jenny Shackley (Women’s), and Barry King (Junior)—competed first in the Australian Championships, then in the World Championships against surfers from across the globe.

Tom Blaxell – When Midget won the very first World Title in 64, it inspired me to make my very first surfboard at the age of 14, with the help of my Dad. That led to my career as a surfboard manufacturer and later also boats. Thank you Midget. You inspired Oz to become a world surfing epicenter
