In 1968, WA surf writer and photographer Greg Woodward interviewed WA State Junior Champion Ian Cairns (age 16) for Surf International magazine, Volume I, No. 9 (Australia).
The interview followed Ian’s return from the 1968 Australian Surfing Titles in NSW, where he was presented with the Duke Kahanamoku Award.
The Duke Kahanamoku Award is a perpetual honour presented during the Australian Junior Surfing Titles by Surfing Australia. It recognizes an emerging, standout junior surfer at the national titles who demonstrates exceptional performance and sportsmanship. Source Surfing Australia.
