Over the years the owner and operator of the caravan park at Smiths Beach, acquired a diverse collection of surfing memorabilia with a WA Surf Museum in mind.
However, the proposed Surf Museum venture didn’t eventuate, and the collection has since been sold off. The surfboard collection was sold at auction and the framed surf images and other collectables were sold with the Canal Rocks Beachfront apartments in late 2017.
In Sept 2017, the owner kindly allowed Dunsborough photographer Ian Wiese and I to photograph and record some of the surf memorabilia in the Canal Rocks Beachfront apartments before they were sold.
The photos had to be taken in place as the posters and photographs were fastened to the walls, and although care was taken to minimize reflections this was not always possible.
