Nearly 150 competitors and thousands of spectators were at Yallingup for the State Surfing Championships on the March long weekend in 1966, Contest winners earned the right to compete in the Australian Surfing Titles in Brisbane Queensland.

The public toilets/change rooms in the next image were built in front of the car park at Yallingup beach in the early 60s. They were demolished in the 1990s and replaced with stone toilet/change rooms re-located in front of the then Surfside complex. The 1966 State Surfboard Championships commenced at Yallingup on the Saturday and were moved to Cowaramup Bay when conditions became boisterous on the Sunday.
