Zac Kochanowitsch’s surfing memoirs

West Perth surfer Alex ’Zac’ Kochanowitsch purchased his first surfboard in 1962 and won WA’s first State Open Men’s Surfing Title in 1964.

In 2012 ‘Zac’ put pen to paper and recorded his 1960s surfing memoirs for Surfing Down South.

Zac – “In 1964 my brother Len (RIP) and I wagged high school to go surfing at City Beach. Unknown to us a newspaper photographer took our photo and it was published in the newspaper. Our dad was furious when he found out we had wagged school to go surfing.”
