2004 Surfing WA 40th Anniversary celebrations – Update

A SDS blog covering the 2004 SWA 40 Year celebrations was posted 3 March 2018. This version includes additional celebration photos from Mike Burkett, an image of the late Loz Smith’s ‘Montage of attendees’ and other related memorabilia. Background

In September 2004 Surfing WA celebrated their 40th Anniversary at AQWA (Aquarium of WA) in Hillarys.

1965-67 WA Women’s surfing champion Teena Christon was invited to officially cut the Anniversary cake with WA politician John Quigley.

Quindalup surf photographer the late Loz Smith captured social pics at the function.

A booklet titled Offshore and Pumping – 40 years of surfing in WA was published and issued to invitees at the function. Norm Bateman was Chairman of SWA’s Celebrating 40 Years sub-committee responsible for producing the booklet.

The late Loz Smith was SWA’s official photographer at the celebrations. After the event Loz created this montage from his photos, it has been signed by many of the attendees. Loz’s montage will be displayed in the new SWA building at Trigg.
